KELLY'S WORLD - Bolt jolted

Don't think I didn't realise that Usain Bolt was in an accident (I'm not brain dead ya know).

I just wanted to make sure he and the two young women were okay. You can't make jokes about an issue if it had left three families and the nation in tears.

I'm glad the Boltster and the belles are fine. But Usain, man to man (now I know you're okay), how yu fi mash up di M3 bredda? Yu know how much a wi want a ride like dat? An' yu tun it ova? The thing is, I can't exactly say easy come, easy go because the training and hard work Bolt put in to merit getting the car were anything but easy. I feel more sympathy for the company that is footing the insurance bill. It nuh cost chupence (threepence)!

Of course, this could be great publicity for BMW. Think about it, how many crashes have we seen like that where everybody walks away basically unhurt? Not many. In fact, if Usain had merely watched where he was walking (which I'm sure he had trouble doing having just crashed), he would definitely be ready for the Manchester City Games on May 17. He might miss it but that would be a blessing in disguise; I am not agog about him running that 150m road race anyway.

There are a few things that bother me though.

One of the first reactions I heard was, "Him mash up di car?" I think the person was joking.

Then, my gut tells me Bolt was speeding on a wet road. But not being a car expert and definitely not being inside the M3 at the time of the accident, I cannot say or even intelligently guess how the automobile ended up in a ditch. But with all the driving assists, traction control and all those fandangles that these cars come with these days, I really wonder how he did flip the car.

As with many incidents of this nature, we heard numerous versions before the truth. First, I heard that Usain was travelling with an unknown woman. Then it was with his girlfriend. Then it was a bredren. Then he wasn't wounded so badly. Then there was a shoulder injury ... you get my point! Now there are rumours about what he may have been doing to cause him to crash. Some of those are suited for rum-bar talk.

Guess we wouldn't be Jamaicans if we didn't do that stuff. Maybe it's our way of laughing off the fact that we could have lost three young lives in a matter of seconds. Now that would not be funny!
