Have a paediatrician you can call any time

Motherhood has taught me several lessons. I have learnt that you cannot be there for your child 24/7. You have to entrust that care to someone else at least for a few hours of the day. I have learnt that worrying is a waste of time. You have to rely on faith and trust that others will make the best decision for your little ones. Having a support base is of vital importance - spouse, family and friends.

I have learnt that parenting often involves some loss of identity. At my children's school, nobody calls me by my name. I am simply J's mom or A's mom. At first, I found it a bit odd but I have grown to appreciate it and I wear that title like a badge of honour.

I have learnt that it is vital to have a paediatrician you can call any time. Once my first daughter was having complications. The doctor examined her at 1:00 a.m. to determine whether she needed to be hospitalised. It saved me a lot of time, worry and energy. I am forever indebted.

When choosing a nanny, the most important quality is that she loves your child. Forget about her house-keeping skills. The housework can slide - your child's well-being is paramount.

I have learnt that parenting is, without a doubt, the most demanding project that I have ever undertaken. It requires a lot of sacrifice but it yields sweet rewards.
