Get some rest, mom

The lessons that come with being a mother are challenging yet fulfilling.

Children keep you very busy. I'm up every morning the by 5 a.m., breakfast is prepared, lunch bags are packed and the two boys are ready and off to school and daycare.

My two boys are four and a half and 11 months old. They have taught me to be patient, observant and a good listener. My elder son is quiet and gentle, while the youngest is more aggressive but sweet. He throws things away so I let him put all his stuff away until he controls himself before he can start playing again.

The elder loves television so when he gets rowdy, I switch it off. They love reading so, as much as I am busy, I find time to read them their favourite books, talk and have play-time with them.

Whatever I cook is what they eat; this includes turn cornmeal with a variety of vegetables. They love meat (any kind), lemonade, freshly squeezed orange juice and water, which is good for them.

Disciplining them is not difficult. I lay the rules, they follow. These include picking up their things and putting them where they are supposed to go. I encourage all single parents to just continue to do their best and give lots of love, attention and ask God for guidance. Rest when you can, even if it's for two minutes.
