Questions for Air Jamaica

Published: Monday | February 2, 2009

The Editor, Sir:

Please get Air Jamaica's management to answer the following questions and others as may be required:

1. What were the fees paid for late arrivals in Miami?

2. Was the route operated in a businesslike manner to give competition to American Airlines?

3. Did Air Jamaica give up the route for a deal with American Airlines?

4. How is it now possible for other airlines to project filling in the gaps and be effective and make money? Why is Air Jamaica unable to step up to the plate?

5. What is the real excuse for dropping Miami?

6. What are the figures that make the other routes profitable and are to be kept?

7. Give the passenger load figures over the relevant period: Get the salary, staff levels, landing fees, security fees/penalties and other operating costs in Miami.

Jamaican taxpayers have been supporting Air Jamaica and a comprehensive report would go down well. If the decision to cut routes was the right one, well so be it; but at least the public should be able to get the details.

I am, etc.,
