Anil Sud and his wife Rajni run Passage to India, which as its name suggests, links your tastebuds to succulent northern Indian food, known for quality and taste.

Opened on Valentine's Day in 2000, Passage to India has become the standard-bearer for fine Indian cuisine and has built a solid reputation which has attracted diners including prime ministers, ministers and other high-profile persons.

The restaurant has also attracted Jamaicans from all walks of life and its vegetable dishes are loved by members of the Rastafarian community. The typical Jamaican goes mainly for shrimp, fish and chicken.

"In the beginning, when we opened they didn't know what to expect, but now they bring their children, they come alone to celebrate, they come to see what kind of food we serve, and they just keep coming back," Anil Sud explained.

Value for money

For the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, lovers of Indian cuisine will have two main things going for them at Passage to India - good food and a good price, as the standard price for meals has been reduced for the period, Sud pointed out. "So they can expect value for money."

Sud is happy that Restaurant Week is finally in Ocho Rios and although it might be a challenge when the population of this rural town is compared with that of the corporate area, it is a trend that should continue, he believes.

There are three Indian cooks who guarantee that the high culinary standards are maintained and patrons are satisfied and keep coming back.

Located on the top floor of Soni's Plaza along Main Street, Ocho Rios, St Ann, Passage to India is easily accessible.
