Boxing action returns to the Corporate Area with tonight's staging of the Institute of Sports-sponsored 'Saturday Night Fight' card at the Barbican Beach playing field, which will feature the highly anticipated clash between long-time rivals and professional fighters, Tsetsi Davis and Ricardo Planter.

Davis and Planter, who are both relatively new to the professional scene, have been itching to renew their 'differences' after the former got the better of his more seasoned rival in their previous two meetings.

one professional bout

Davis, who only has one professional bout under his belt, is confident in his abilities to secure a third successive victory over his opponent.

"I'm glad to know that I now get somebody to challenge me, so I'm excited. Ricardo (Powell) now has the heart to come out and face me, so I'm looking forward to that, but let's see how strong he is," said Davis.

Planter in the meantime is anxious to avenge his earlier defeats and is out to prove that he is the better fighter, after two successful years as a professional.

"I'm looking forward to it. I'm very confident that I'm going to win this fight. Of all the other fights I have won in the United States and in the Caribbean, this win will be special because as an amateur, he got the better of me twice. Now I'm determined to prove that I'm the better fighter," Planter said.

other exciting contests

The card also includes eight other exciting contests, including a Jamaica versus Barbados mini-series featuring a number of emerging local amateur talents, such as the Bruising Gym duo of Richard Walker and Sakima Mullings, who will all be going up against Barbadian opponents.

Also scheduled are five additional bouts and General Secretary of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control (JBBC), Leroy Brown, is satisfied with the way things are shaping up.

"Everything is going well so far and we are all very excited and happy," said Brown. "It is shaping up to be a great night and we are all looking forward to it."

The Barbadians arrived in the island yesterday and will join the other boxers at the Stanley Couch Gym this morning for the weigh-in and medical tests.
