Hinds displays fine form

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

West Indies batting all-rounder, Ryan Hinds, claimed a fine five-wicket haul on Thursday and propelled his side to victory in the latest Barbados President's Cup trial match at Kensington Oval.

Batting first, the Kirk Edwards XI scored 137 all out from 49 overs and the Hinds XI registered an easy four-wicket triumph with their reply of 151 for six off 37.2 overs.

Former West Indies Under-19 captain Shamarh Brooks top-scored for Edwards' side with 40 and the captain got 31, while Hinds used his left-arm spin to snare five for 24 off seven overs.

Leg-spinner Nikolai Charles, with one for 21 off nine overs, also contained the batsmen while medium pacer Antonio Mayers (2-23) bagged pair of wickets.

Hinds XI suffered an early slump but Alcindo Holder smashed an unbeaten 58 and Hinds, a brisk 27 to steer them to victory with more than 12 overs to spare.

The Hinds XI had also won another trial match on Wednesday by two wickets with two balls to spare after Kofi Hurdle (48) and Patrick Browne (35) helped them chase a target of 157.

squad selection

The selectors are expected to announce the Barbados squad this weekend for the October 28 to November 5 President's Cup in Guyana.

Beaten finalists last year, Barbados will contest Zone B with hosts Guyana, Leeward Islands and West Indies Under-19s.

Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Windward Islands and Combined Campuses and College (CCC) will contest Zone A.
