CGM Gallagher six-a-side

CGM Gallagher Group, the Caribbean's largest insurance broker with 10 offices in more than six territories, hosts six teams in a limited overs, six-a-side tournament tomorrow at University of the West Indies, Mona campus.

The teams are CGM Gallagher, BCIC, Courts, National Housing Trust, Insurance Team, and Invitational or Captain's Team.

Players from Jamaica Broilers, Jamaica Property and Sagicor will make up the invitational. The event, which is by invitation only, will see West Indies player Brendan Nash, who is sponsored by CGM Gallagher Group, on hand and will bowl the first ball.

David Hunt Memorial Scholarship

The winners of the inaugural David Hunt Memorial Scholarship will be announced today at a ceremony to be held at the Norman Manley Law School, University of the West Indies, Mona campus, starting at 10 a.m.

The scholarships are slated for two grade eight students, one each from Calabar High and Kingston College. The scholarship winners have been selected by the David Hunt Memorial Scholarship committee on the basis of recommendations from the respective schools and assessment by the committee. The criteria for each scholarship include: academic performance, involvement in sporting activity, extra-curricular activity, and financial need.

The David Hunt Memorial Scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of the much-loved former football coach of the Jamaican junior team, Calabar High School and the Meadheaven Football Club. Hunt, a Kingston College past student, was able, in his lifetime, to create a bridge between two of Jamaica's leading secondary schools, Kingston College and Calabar.

St Thomas football KO

The St Thomas James Robertson KO kicks off tomorrow at 3 p.m. with the playing of the two games.

Delta Force face Yallahs at Golden Grove while Hillside take on Seaforth at Seaforth Community Centre.

Fifteen teams entered the competition, including the defending champions, Prospect Sports Club.

Last year, James Robertson, the member of parliament for Western St Thomas, committed $400,000 initially to the competition. He further increased the sponsorship by $200,000 to assist with training of Desmond Breakenridge, who went to England on a coaching course, and Llewellyn Brown, who was scheduled to attend training in Brazil. Brown, unfortunately, did not travel to Brazil due to the cancellation of the course, but was sponsored through the same fund from Minister James Robertson, and successfully completed the Advance Level One coaching course.

Negril Doubles Beach Volleyball

Sand Sports in association with Negril entertainment.com will host a Negril International Invitational Doubles Beach Volleyball tournament January 9-10, 2010.

Sixteen teams are expected to take part and entry fee is $5,000 per team. The winning team will walk away with $100,000.

Excelsior domino

Sixty-four pairs have already qualified from the parishes of St Catherine (32 pairs), Clarendon (16 pairs), Manchester (8 pairs) and St Elizabeth (8 pairs) for the second round of the Excelsior Domino Pairs Championship.

The championship will now move on to Hanover and St James today and tomorrow, at the Jockey Factory and the Montego Bay Cricket Club, respectively. Play begins at 10 a.m. each day.

Last weekend, the championship rolled through the south coast of St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

In St Elizabeth the top prize of $15,000 went to the pair of John Bailey and Devon Wilson of Strikers Domino Club, who defeated Devon Stewart and Girvan Barrett of Victoria Town Youth Club.

Over in Westmoreland, Leon Hall of Waterworks teamed up with Carl Willock of Farm Pen to take home $15,000 at Manning's School, after defeating Kevin Mosely and Daniel Parkinson 6-5, 3-6, 6-5 in their best-of-three final.

Oracabessa, Labyrinth draw 0-0

The James Bond Beach-sponsored primary school league continued on Thursday at the James Bond Beach Complex in Oracabessa, St Mary, with the playing of one of two scheduled football games.

It was exciting end-to-end football between Oracabessa and Labyrinth Primary, with 0-0 being the eventual scoreline between both teams. Labyrinth got the easier chances in the game but were unable to capitalise on the opportunities.

Action continues next Tuesday at the same venue.

Mason Hall Primary opted out of the competition at the last moment leaving Gayle, Trinity and Three Hills to do battle in the Breadfruit Zone.

Wray and Nephew Portmore cricket

One match is scheduled in today's fifth round of the Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Portmore Cricket League.

Reid's Pen, still on a high after their big 67-run victory over Ken's Wildflower two weeks ago, play Belmont at the Ken's Wildflower cricket ground.

Three games are on tomorrow with two in Group A and one in Group B. In Group B, Hamilton Gardens take on Cumberland at Hamilton Gardens, while Portsmouth battle newcomers Portmore Pines at Bridgeport sports ground. In Group A, Wray and Nephew Development Squad lock horns with Washington CC at Ken's Wildflower.

Last week's tournament was affected by rain. Sunday's matches were abandoned. On Saturday, the game between the Wray and Nephew Development Squad and Reid's Pen was called off due to an unprepared pitch. All games begin at 11 a.m.

Hot Shots pool tourney

The Hot Shots/Pools Tables and Billiards Supplies 12th ranking pool tournament takes place on October 17 and 18 at Hot Shots, 103 Constant Spring Road, starting at 3 p.m. both days.

The double elimination tournament (eight ball) offers a first prize of $50,000 and a trophy, second $20,000 and a trophy, third and fourth $5,000 each. Entry fee is $2,500.

Mile Gully victorious

Mile Gully won the Cobbla New Testament Church of God Football league after beating George North 2-1 in a thrilling final last weekend.

Captain Ryan Henriques put Mile Gully in front with a 35th-minute goal. However, Marvin Wright found the equaliser for George North in the 54th minute. The game remained competitive throughout until Gawaine Cunningham struck in the 73rd minute to fire home what proved to be the winning goal.

In the day's curtain-raiser, Spring Ground prevailed over West Road 4-3 after penalties were used to break their regulation time 1-1 deadlock.

Colin Fagan domino semis on tomorrow

The semi-finals of the Colin Fagan South East St Catherine domino competition take place tomorrow at neutral venues, starting at 1 p.m.

The matches on are Passagefort United vs Westchester Nukuzs at Ken's Wildflower, and Ken's Wildflower vs Westchester United at Garveymeade Sports Club. Both matches start at 1 p.m. and the winners will advance to next Sunday's final at a venue to be announced.
