Something must be done

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AFTER FOLLOWING the nightly news on the Armadale fire enquiry, I am calling on the Jamaican Government to have a special audit of all institutions where children are placed by the state.

I have to ask some questions. How come the leadership of juvenile correctional institutions did not know of the type of punishment that these wards of the state were subjected to at Armadale? I am not blaming the present Armadale staff for the atrocities, I am laying the blame squarely at the feet of hierarchy of the Department of Correctional Services.

The only thing that could appease my anger with the leadership of this department is to see some resignations in the near future starting with Commissioner of Corrections June Spence-Jarrett.

I am, etc.,
