AHWHOFAH, to again be ridden by Omar Walker, is the ante-post favourite for the She's On Wheels Trophy. - file

With four of the six runners slated, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta holds a strong hand in today's graded stakes feature over 1100 metres for the She's On Wheels Trophy at Caymanas Park.

Among them are last year's winner CHADMAN and his classy stable companion, reigning champion sprinter AHWHOFAH, who is coming off a recent win in the $1-million UBA Sprint over 1300 metres.

In addition to these two, DaCosta also saddles the fleet-footed four-year-old gelding MR SKILL, who bids for a hat-trick of wins and the talented American 3-year-old filly RACING MACHINE, who lost for the first time in seven starts to AHWHOFAH in the UBA Sprint.

title-chasing jockey

Although DaCosta seemingly has the race locked up, GOOD CITIZEN, from the convenient mark of 52.0kg and title-chasing jockey Dane Nelson aboard, could spoil the party.

Trained by Carl Anderson, the American four-year-old filly got through in the Stewards' Room last time out on June 20 when awarded the Winston Griffiths OD Plaque over 1400 metres on the disqualification of TOBAGO, this in open allowance company.

Prior to that, she was an unlucky loser behind the front-running favourite RACING MACHINE over 1200 metres in the Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy. She was thwarted by a slipped saddle and, in the end, lost by only a length.

A good case can certainly be made for GOOD CITIZEN in a race of this nature, but I suspect DaCosta will have his way in the end.

The lightly weighted RACING MACHINE is almost sure to set off in front and with only 50.0kg and in-form Panamanian Dick Cardenas aboard, should take a lot of catching. Still, I feel AHWHOFAH, the mount of champion jockey Omar Walker, is not too heavy with top weight of 58.0kg to reel her in close home.

burning up the track

After winning two of her last three races, including the UBA Sprint in which the jockey lost his whip, AHWHOFAH has been burning up the track at exercise in preparation for this race, galloping 51/2 furlongs in an eye-popping 1:05.4 last Sunday morning, the last five in 59.3.

Back in action well drawn on the outside of this small field, AHWHOFAH, who packs a powerful finish, should prove too strong for RACING MACHINE and GOOD CITIZEN in the last 100 metres. It should still be an exciting race.

Other firm fancies on the card are SEA DEVIL to win the opening two-year-old race, QUEEN OF MY HEART in the third, RAJPUT in the fifth, JOHNNY APPLESEED in the sixth, HEART OF GOLD in the eighth and C'EST MOI in the ninth.
