GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC):

The Leeward Islands crashed to their second sub-100 total of the season, as the Windward Islands took control on an opening day on which 17 wickets fell, in their fifth-round WICB regional four-day match yesterday.

Opting to bat at the Beausejour Stadium, the Leewards collapsed to 75 all out and although pacer Lionel Baker hit back with a five-wicket haul, the Windwards were comfortably ahead at stumps on 218 for seven. The young St Vincent and the Grenadines batsman Donwell Hector was unbeaten at the close on 67.

SCORES: Leewards 75 (Shane Jeffers 34 not out; Shane Shillingford 3-15, Deighton Butler 3-22, Darren Sammy 3-22). Windwards 218-7 (Donwell Hector 67 not out, Rawl Lewis 39, Darren Sammy 36, André Fletcher 33; Lionel Baker 5-67).

Another Hinds century

AT LUCAS STREET, Barbados: Barbadian Ryan Hinds continued to nag West Indies selectors, reeling off another century to put Barbados in command against Guyana on the rain-hit opening day of the fifth-round WICB Regional four-day match yesterday.

The left-handed Hinds, who has already scored a double century (240) this season, slammed a typically stroke-filled 134 to guide Barbados to 298 for four at the close, after they were sent in at the Windward Cricket club.

Captain Jason Haynes, woefully out of form, further compounded that gloom as he finished the day 89 not out, while the aggressive Dwayne Smith chipped in with an unbeaten 55.

SCORES: Barbados 298 for four (Ryan Hinds 134, Jason Haynes 89 not out, Dwayne Smith 55 not out) vs Guyana.

CCC defiant

AT PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: Floyd Reifer and Nicolai Parris stroked half-centuries as the Combined Campuses and Colleges defied Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of their fifth-round WICB regional four-day match yesterday.

The left-handed Reifer hit an attractive 82, while Parris carved out a workmanlike 58 to push their side up to 269 for eight, after being sent in at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground at University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus.

SCORES: CCC 269-8 (Floyd Reifer 82, Nekoli Parris 58, Kurt Wilkinson 31, Ryan Austin 26 not out; Richard Kelly 2-31, Samuel Badree 2-49, Atiba Alert 2-55).
