Wavell Hinds scored half-centuries in both innings to lead Jamaica to a hard-fought victory in their fourth-round regional four-day match against Barbados at Kensington Park on Monday.

Set 201 for victory, Jamaica were in early trouble at 81 for four, but like he did in the first innings, Hinds again saved the day and the match.

Along with Dave Bernard Jr, Hinds, who played brilliantly for 59 not out, shared in a match winning 122-run fifth-wicket partnership, which took Jamaica to 203 for four.

Unbeaten on 60

The discarded West Indies batsman faced 148 balls in 178 minutes of batting, hitting two fours and a six while Bernard, who was unbeaten on 60, faced 133 balls in 159 minutes at the crease, striking six fours.

Earlier, in the first innings, Hinds' 75 held Jamaica's innings together after it threatened to fall apart.

He featured in a 92-run, sixth-wicket stand with Keith Hibbert (25), lifting his side after it had slipped to 143 for five.

For his two crucial innings Hinds, who played 45 Tests for the West Indies, has been selected The Gleaner's Top Performer of the Week.

Unbeaten Jamaica lead the West Indies Cricket Board's four-day championship with 42 points.
