Findlay
Shawn Findlay's outstanding all-round performance in the ongoing Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) senior team trials continued yesterday when he grabbed five wickets to lead David Bernard Jr XI to an innings and 89-run win over Tamar Lambert XI, in the second of three trial matches, at Melbourne Oval.
Known primarily for his hard-hitting displays as a batsman, Findlay bowled a steady length and line to snare 5-28 as Lambert XI, resuming on their overnight 70-1, and facing an innings deficit of 221, were blown away for 202 in early afternoon.
Lambert's XI had first made 182 in the first innings to which Bernard Jr XI replied with 473.
"In the Jamaica team it's difficult to get a bowl as there are so many all-rounders," said Findlay.
"But if the selectors pick me and I get the ball I plan to go out there and show what I am capable of," added the former Jamaica Under-15 representative and Under-19 captain, who also made a near run-a-ball 39 in Bernard Jr's large total.
In the meanwhile Odean Brown, 2-56, was the only other bowler to shine on yesterday's final day with fast bowler Jason Dawes and Andre Russell each taking a wicket apiece, against Donovan Pagon, 45, and Carlton Baugh Jr, 25.
The third and final trial match will start on Friday, also at Melbourne, after which an 18-man squad will be selected to start preparing for the championship.
