KSAFA giants clash in Jackie Bell KO
Published: Wednesday | December 2, 2009
An epic battle is expected at Breezy Castle when Rae Town host Cavalier in the quarter-finals of the Claro Jackie Bell knock-out competition at 3p.m. this afternoon.
The match sees the current first and second place teams in the Claro Super League going up against each other for the second time this season. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw then, with Cavalier's Gee Daley and Rae Town's Mark Williams the scorers.
Cavalier who were runners-up in last season's Super League, currently lead the standings on 20 points but are followed closely by Rae Town on 19.
In the previous round of the knock-out competition Cavalier overwhelmed Major League outfit University of the West Indies (UWI) 4-0, while Rae Town outscored Rockfort 5-2, another Major League team.
Cavalier's player/coach, David Laylor, said: "Every game is important; winning the Jackie Bell is just as important as winning the Super League.
"If you focus on being a winner and just stick with that principle, then you hope it sticks with you and carry you through all the way.
"Winning is really important and it boosts the morale of the team in going forward onto the Premier League. We have sharpened up on our shooting, which was what failed us the last time," he added.
Michael Francis, coach of Rae Town, believes everybody wants to beat his team.
"At this point in time everybody wants to beat the Rae Town team because they want to know what Rae Town is doing so well to perform, so it's rough because we are trying to keep the focus," Francis said.
He added: "Every team and every coach would like to win every cup that is available. This time we have to ensure that we put away our chances when we get them and at the end of the game, hopefully we can come out victorious," he added.
