Western Bureau:

Surprise leaders Bamboo of Hanover made it four wins from four starts in the 2009-2010 Captain's Bakery and Grill Western Super League football competition on Sunday afternoon, when they carved out a 1-0 win over Petersfield in their game at Petersfield Community Centre.

In a game in which they were made to battle from start to finish, the Errol Jumpp-coached Bamboo outfit got their all-important goal from the boots of the prolific Dwayne Jumpp, who fired home a savage shot midway the first half.

"It is a joy to be in the lead at this time and we will be working real hard to keep this lead," said coach Jumpp.

He added: "Once we continue to work hard and stay composed, I believe we have a very good chance of winning this competition."

Three-way battle

Frome, Seba United and Reno, who are all locked in a three-way battle for second place behind Bamboo, also registered good wins in Sunday's round of games. Frome defeated Montpelier 2-0, Seba clipped Prosper 1-0 while Reno blanked Violet Kickers 2-0.

In the other matches, former champions Granville lost their unbeaten record when they suffered a 0-2 loss to Exidus in their game at Bounty Hall, while newcomers Catherine Hall handed former national champions Wadadah their fourth consecutive defeat, clipping them 1-0.

In their game against Montpelier at Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland, Frome dominated the game even though their finishing was faulty at times. In the end they managed to strike twice through former national Under-20 player Delano Rankine and Shane Anderson.

In their game against Prosper at the Watson Taylor Park in Lucea, Seba United found the struggling Hanover team a rather tough opponent and in the end could only manage a 1-0 win, courtesy of Wilfred Smith's strike.

In the first game of the Jarrett Park double-header, Reno domina-ted against a lacklustre Violet Kickers but found veteran goal-keeper Warren Barrett in good form.

However, Reno's persistence eventually paid off as a double strike by Martin Williams gave them a 2-0 win.

"It was really a decent performance by the team today and I believe the result was justified," said Reno's coach Michael Graham. "We are comfortably placed in the competition and we are quite pleased about that as well."

In the second game at Jarrett Park, the Garfield Anderson-coached Catherine Hall added another chapter to Wadadah's misery, courtesy of a well-taken goal by André Barrett.
