OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (CMC):
Jamaican Jermaine Bridgmohan continued his unbridled run toward the 2009 Remington Park jockeys' title by scoring three wins last Monday afternoon.
The 21-year-old native of Spanish Town landed the second, fourth and seventh for his three wins - all for the USA's No.1 racehorse trainer Steve Asmussen - that widened his lead in the riders' championship to 20 wins.
His triple success gave him seven wins in the last four racedays and pushed his season's tally at Remington to 71 wins, well clear of Clifton Berry (51) and Luis Quinones (45) with less than two weeks remaining in the racing year here.
Bridgmohan opened his Monday afternoon account by winning the US$26,500 second race for two-year-old fillies over six furlongs with the favourite Sixtysix Margaux.
A 2-5 top choice in the 12-horse field, Sixtysix Margaux showed good speed to lead early and pulled clear over the last two furlongs to win by 5-3/4 lengths in one minute, 11.17 seconds.
Bridgmohan then won the US$13,300 fourth race over 5-1/2 furlongs with the 3-5 favourite Haymow Bob, coming from behind to score by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:04.52.
Double successes
Bridgmohan, who had scored double successes on Friday and Sunday, completed his three-timer by landing the US$29,500 eighth race over five furlongs with the 3-2 favourite Ride Em Cowgirl.
Under a confident ride, Ride Em Cowgirl came from off the pace and made a winning run in the homestretch - five wide - under Bridgmohan to score by one length in 58.21 seconds.
The season ends on December 14 and young Bridgmohan is poised for his second jockeys' title success since he impressively landed the 2006/07 Tropical Calder Meet crown in Florida as an 18-year-old with a record-breaking 110 winners.
