Heartease United Club fun day on today
The annual fun day of the Heartease United Club Benevolent Society is on today on the grounds of the community centre.
The club, champions in SDC 20/20 cricket, has dominated cricket in St Thomas, winning all competitions in the parish since 2000 with the exception of last year.
The club has recently been promoted to the Captain's Bakery Major league, having been relegated to division two competition three years ago. The organisation is of a unique type in the parish having introduced community-based projects.
The approach this year is to move away from the traditional fun day by engaging the children to participate in all activities. The idea was developed based on the dramatic increase in the number of children participating in some form of sporting activities in the area.
To this end, the objective is to showcase the abundance of talent, providing entertainment for everyone while creating opportunities for the less privileged.
Activities will commence at 10 a.m. with the playing of 15/15 cricket match. This will be followed by athletics, football and many other sporting activities.
Funds from the event will be used to assist the less fortunate in the community with books, school bags and other basic requirements for the upcoming school year.
