Henry to ride at holiday meet in T&T

Florida-based former Jamaica champion jockey, Wesley Henry, is among a quartet of overseas jockeys flying in for next Monday's rich Independence Day meet at Santa Rosa Park.
Henry, along with other Florida-based riders Wilmer Galviz and Carlos Olivero and the Barbadian Chris Husbands, have all been booked for rides on Monday's eight-race holiday card.
All four jockeys have secured mounts in the main event, the TT$200,000 (US$32,894) Indepen-dence Cup over 1800 metres on turf.
Henry, currently fifth in the Calder jockeys' standings in Miami with 36 wins, will partner the impressive United States (US)-bred three-year-old Slewsmart-strike for trainer Glen Mendez and Galviz mounts veteran local champion Chief Commander from top trainer John O'Brien's barn.
Olivero rides US-bred Blackstone Street and Husbands will mount another US-bred, Champagne on the Deck.
Other leading entries in the 11-horse field are Straight Ahead, with Richard Perez aboard, DRoyal Prospect (Ronald Ali) and Windjammer (Keishan Balgobin).
Impressive Jamaica-bred Midsummer Classic winner Bruceontheloose, originally entered for the Independence Cup, has been shifted to the Starter Allowance eighth race over 6-1/2 furlongs.

Venezuela-born Galviz, who rode Bruceon-theloose to victory in the Midsummer Classic earlier this month, will be astride the roan three-year-old colt in the TT$39,000 (US$6,414) event, the final race on the card.
Henry, the 1997 Jamaica champion jockey, will ride US-bred Nandani and Husbands will be astride Luca's Gold in the 15-horse field that also include the Jamaica-bred four-year-old filly Pride 'N' Glory, winner of last year's T&T Royal Oak Derby.
Henry has a total of six rides on the card.
