I feel cheated

The Editor, Sir:

Since January of this year, I have been making telephone calls to the National Housing Trust seeking to purchase a house or serviced lot in the Morris Meadows Scheme, St Catherine. The persons to whom I spoke advised that "when units are available they will be published", and it was only at such times that applications are to be made.

Weekly, I have been checking the daily newspapers to see when such units would become available and, to my amazement, in reading The Sunday Gleaner of June 14, I saw where 48 persons have been selected to acquire available units. Quite frankly, I feel cheated as at no time when I called the agency was I advised that units would be available.

A decade of waiting

Why is it that prospective owners cannot apply before available units are published? Is there some special 'secret' or 'links' by which qualified applicants are decided?

I have been applying for a housing unit for more than 10 years now, and find it strange that I have never been contacted for an interview. I have now even decided to co-apply with a relative of mine in order to qualify, as both of us are in need of a housing solution.

I don't know if this letter will help or harm my situation, but I think it is my best shot at getting some assistance.

I am, etc.
