Coach Geoffrey Maxwell made a hasty retreat after his team, St Georges FC, squandered a two-goal advantage against Meadhaven FC, which grabbed a share of the points in a Digicel Premier League game yesterday.

Playing at home at Lynch Park in Buff Bay, the Portland team took the lead after just eight minutes when Damion Harwood tapped home a pass from Daniel Shaw for a 1-0 lead.

Georges continued to dominate the first half through Shaw, Damian Reid, Leon Irving, and Omar Henderson, who made inroads into the defence of Meadhaven. It was poor finishing which prevented the Portland team from going further ahead.

The second half saw Georges continuing the onslaught on the visiting team's defence, and they were rewarded in the 57th minute after Irving dribbled down the left flank and made a pass to Kenief Lee. Lee got the ball back to Irving who then found Shaw on the edge of the penalty spot. The latter fired past Andrew Gibson in goal for a 2-0 lead.

A minute later, however, Meadhaven pulled one back after Lennox Creary fired from close range past Anthoniel Williams in the Georges goal.

A minute from full-time Meadhaven managed to pull level after Keammar Daley found the unmarked Raymond Williamson lurking on the edge of the six-yard box. Williamson calmly slotted home to give his team a share of the points.

Lijyasu Simms of Meadhaven was quick to point out that poor officiating disrupted his team's game plan.

"I believe most of the calls went against us," he said. "I am however, thankful for the one point. We played a hard game throughout to play catch up to Georges."
