With visions of the championship trophy firmly etched in their minds, leaders and champions Jamaica will today seek to wrap up the WICB regional four-day championship when they play the Windward Islands at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

The showdown, which will be one of three that will be contested in this the eleventh and penultimate round of the championship, will see Jamaica trying to get the six points which would ensure that they retain the title.

Jamaica's rivals

Jamaica's only rivals for the title, third-placed the Leeward Islands, will play the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in St Kitts & Nevis, in a match that they must win outright if they are to stay in contention.

Jamaica has 90 points, 27 more than out-of-contention the Windwards, and 31 more than the Leewards, who have a game in hand.

Twelve points are awarded for an outright win, while six are awarded for first innings lead.

"The vibes is very positive. The guys know that they just need a good result to close out the competition and everybody is upbeat," said Jamaica's manager, Derron Dixon.

Same approach

"Though the Windwards are out, our approach won't change. We still take it seriously as any other assignment. The players also know that their own personal fortunes are also on the line, as it relates to playing for the West Indies," he added.

Jamaica will be missing opener Brenton Parchment, who Dixon explained picked up a knee injury after helping to secure a nail-biting draw against the CCC on Tuesday.

He has been replaced by teenage opener Horace Miller, but it is widely believed that hard-hitting opener Danza Hyatt, who has been 12th man for their last seven matches, will get his fourth cap of the season.

The hosts will also look towards in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Carlton Baugh Jr, captain Tamar Lambert, Wavell Hinds, David Bernard Jr, and Brendan Nash to lead their batting

In the bowling department, much will expected of leg-spinners Gavin Wallace and Odean Brown and off-spinner Bevon, should the Jamaican coaching staff choose to employ the questionable tactic of playing three front-line spinners again, along with in-form bowler Andrew Richardson.

Young pacer Jason Dawes is the other available bowling option.

For the Windwards, they will look to captain Rawl Lewis and off-spinner Shane Shillingford, along with a battery of unknown 20-year-olds, led by Donwell Hector.
