Hanson explores his artistic roots
Though he wasn't born here, Gerard Hanson's heritage is quite Jamaican, and he wants the world to know. The United Kingdom-based artist, along with the European Union (EU) delegation in Jamaica, opened his exhibit, 'Jamaica Was My Father's Home', at the Devonshire, Devon House, on Tuesday.

Of silks and saris

It was a scene of sari-wearing women, silks and magic carpets as guests turned out for Allied Insurance Brokers' (AIB) recent client party. It was as if the staff wanted to bring one of the palatial residences from the sub-continent itself for the occasion. But the realistic décor more than sufficed.

The polo challenge

Last Sunday's NCB Capital Markets High Goal Polo Challenge was the perfect afternoon out for polo enthusiasts and for those who just wanted a day out. Adults and a few children turned up at the Kingston Polo Club mostly after the 10 a.m. start time.

Hanging in the fast lane

Luvs, for an island that has produced some of the world's fastest and most enduring athletes in track and field, the question was always when, not if, Jamaica would stage the sort of athletic meet on its own shores that would help in the process of asserting its role as a superpower in the sport.

Bill Clarke's ruby years

Last Saturday, while many Jamaicans were watching athletes show their talent or celebrating Jamaica Broilers' 50th anniversary, a select group of family, board members, friends, colleagues of Scotiabank's president William 'Bill' Clarke, gathered at his Jack's Hill residence to recognise his 40th anniversary with the bank.
