Letter of the Day - Protecting sovereignty
The Editor, Sir: We love to duck issues, but the truth is that the majority of persons who migrate do so out of their own desire to pursue financial betterment, to pursue greener pastures. Remittances made to Jamaica were a fulfilment of their own family obligations and without any altruistic intentions towards Jamaica.

Upholding the Constitution

The Editor, Sir: If a citizen of Jamaica pledged allegiance to the United States, he or she should not be allowed to partake in Jamaica's election. These measures undermine Jamaica's democratic development, judicial independence and the possibility of free and fair process.

Nurses and abortion

THE EDITOR, Sir: In your edition of Sunday, May 4, 2008, under the heading "NAJ opposes abortion clinics", Mrs Allwood-Anderson, president of the Nurses' Association of Jamaica (NAJ), is quoted as saying that the "nurses wholeheartedly supported the sustenance of life" ...

Can't have it both ways

The Editor, Sir: While I commend my fellow Jamaicans for helping the Jamaican economy through remittances, (of which I myself contribute), I think it is selfish to have your cake and eat it too.

Time for atonement

The Editor, Sir: I can understand the security forces' focus on a new crime plan, considering the crime wave currently being unleashed on the country. However, in addition to hard policing, the time has come for a week of atonement.
