LETTER OF THE DAY - Questions (and answers) about dual citizenship
The Editor, Sir: One of your respected correspondents has asked the question: "Can a Jamaican who has sworn allegiance to the United States in order to gain U.S. citizenship still hold his/her U.S. citizenship along with the Jamaican citizenship?"

Teach safe sex, not same sex

The Editor, Sir :It is interesting that there are so many arguments over this same-sex education issue, which clearly shows that citizens are still concerned; however, there is no great effort on making safe sex education a part of the school syllabus.

Boosting family

The Editor, Sir: The Message published in a recent issue of The Gleaner, captioned "Bring back the family, bring back the society" conveyed the encouraging conviction on the way forward expressed by Mr. Sameer Younis, chairman of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.

Gov't not tough enough on crime

The Editor, Sir: Déjà vu all over again. Once again the country has been experiencing some of the most horrible crimes created by man, and nothing has been done to at least reduce, much more rid our society of this awful scourge. What makes it so horrible and painful...

Challenge of waste disposal

The Editor, Sir: There is a serious environmental issue that the country faces in particular urban communities where the management of waste disposal and collection imposes a challenge on our society. The new government has a responsibility to educate...

Another crime plan after long neglect

The Editor, Sir: Last Wednesday, we were witnesses to the unveiling of yet another 'crime plan'. This is frustrating for those among us who have done the necessary research and analysis required to come to an informed position. The Minister is under enormous pressure...

Awful slaying

The Editor, Sir: I read the news in The Gleaner about the slaying of the Samaritans. This incident is really despicable. The couple took the bikers to the hospital and were trying to follow-up on them to make sure they were OK. In return, the low-lives murdered the couple...

Tribute to Taiwo

The Editor, Sir: Taiwo you have left us in flesh but far from being erased from memory. He was a giving soul. His office was directly behind mine where the walls didn't go up to the ceiling so we would call out to each other and he was always quick to respond, verbally.
