LETTER OF THE DAY - Security fears on Mona campus
The Editor, Sir: In total disbelief, I read The Gleaner article entitled 'Thumbs-up given to UWI campus security'. I believe this article totally misled readers into believing all is well at the UWI, Mona campus where security is concerned.

Environmental consequences
The Editor, Sir: As a tourist visiting your beautiful country for the third time, it was interesting to read the article by Peter Espeut in Wednesday's Gleaner (August 23). It seems to me that, with each visit...

Misunderstood
The Editor, Sir: I received only one positive email response and several others chastising me for my article 'Non-taxpayers getting homes', written on August 24, 2006. I believe that I was misunderstood because at no time did I state that the poor...

Selecting a UWI principal
The Editor, Sir: The University of the West Indies (UWI) has taken note of an article 'Shortlisting of UWI principal' which appeared in the Sunday Gleaner of August 27. The university wishes to advise that the selection of a principal...

The unbridling of free speech
The Editor, Sir: In your editorial on 'Dancehall and free speech', it was stated that the residents of Grants Pen, St. Thomas, blocked a critical route in protest against the arrest of a top dancehall artiste.

Free speech
The Editor, Sir: Your editorial titled 'Dancehall and free speech' leaves me confused. On the one hand you advise us readers, "This newspaper does not expound, promote or encourage uncouth or vulgar language."

Private sector and poverty
The Editor, Sir: You are correct in assuming I was not saying that Jamaica should not have sought independence. Liberating our people from the extensive poverty they endure is true independence.
