The Editor, Sir:
I received only one positive email response and several others chastising me for my article 'Non-taxpayers getting homes', written on August 24, 2006. I believe that I was misunderstood because at no time did I state that the poor in the inner city should not get a home. I clearly stated that I was in total support of such a move but would like that courtesy extended to the rural areas also.
My stumbling block in purchasing a home for myself is the deposit required, so that is all I am asking, for it to be lowered. I am not fortunate enough to have relatives and friends overseas to send me any form of remittance, so I am doing the best that I can and if I could receive a gift of a lower and affordable housing deposit, I and many others in this same predicament would be eternally grateful.
I am, etc.,
