As a tourist visiting your beautiful country for the third time, it was interesting to read the article by Peter Espeut in Wednesday's Gleaner (August 23). It seems to me that, with each visit, Jamaica's natural environment is under increasing threat. As the article highlights, without proper independent environmental impact assessments, it is impossible to identify the long-term environmental consequences of tourist developments, e.g., Pear Tree Bottom, the Whitehouse project, and the Harmony Cove project. I don't think Jamaicans' grandchildren are going to thank this generation for a continued short-term view on the natural environment.
