The curtain comes down on the Impulse Energy Drink Series at Caymanas Park today with 13 starters down to contest the Impulse Energy Drink Cup over 1200 metres.

The race is confined to four-year-olds and up, non-winners of three other than.

With an abundance of good form present, it promises to be the most competitive race in the series, as no fewer than eight of the starters have good claims.

The first race in the series on October 24 was won by 7-1 chance CLASSIC BEAU. And the second went to A TASTE OF O'RILEYS following the disqualification of QUEEN NERISSA.

Leading lights include the recent winners LAWS OF THE CAT, MINERVA, MEDUSA and FIRST EDITION, as well as BALLROOM DANCER, ARIANA, BUNKER DUST and the late kicking RISING HURRICANE, who will not find the distance too sharp.

much to choose from

With so many hopefuls, it will be interesting to see who is installed the favourite.

There is not much to choose among the trio of BUNKER DUST, RISING HURRICANE and BALLROOM DANCER based on their running over the distance on October 17 when finishing second, third and fourth, respectively, to THE REAL FURY.

Just over a length separated second to fourth and the Richie Todd-trained BALLROOM DAN-CER, in particular, could step up on that performance based on his May 25 fast-time win over 1100 metres.

MEDUSA and MINERVA, first and second over 1100 metres on November 7, look tempting at the weights, the Desmond Shand-trained MEDUSA down to carry a mere 47.0kg by virtue of the apprentice Michael Grant's 4.0kg claiming allowance.

MINERVA, coming from the in-form stables of Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, subsequently won over the straight five course at the expense of the then favourite and subsequent winner LAWS OF THE CAT and was also a winner over today's trip on September 12 in a decent 1:14.1.

In both instances, the four-year-old filly by Legal Process out of the Joe Slew mare Printing Press was ridden by two-time champion jockey Brian Harding, who again has the ride today.

Although having to put up 1.5kg overweight for the services of Harding, MINERVA still looks handily placed in the scales with 52.5kg. She has also looked sharp in her preparation, galloping five furlongs from the gate in 1:00.2 last Saturday morning, the last four in 47.0. In a really tough race, she is given the edge.

I also like SONOR in the second race; WORKING IMAGE over FOREVER MINE in the fifth (open allowance) for the Rajiv Maragh Trophy in honour of the Jamaican-born jockey who is making waves in the USA; THE GUV in the sixth; LINDA BLAKE in the seventh; and RED LION over GALLAVANTER in the eighth.

Maragh and his family will be special guests of CTL at the track today.
