The much-anticipated start of the Jamaica Netball Association 2009-2010 season gets under way today with the centre pass at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The competition, which is being sponsored by Jamaica National Building Society for the 17th year, begins with action in the Jo Wigman Rally, starting1 p.m.

Waulgrovians 'A' are the defending champions in the rally competition, while Jamalco are the defending league winners.

Sixty-eight teams have been entered in this year's competition, which includes four new teams. Flames United, Job's Lane Sports Club, Liguanea United and UTech Knights are the newcomers.

Pat Thomas, organiser of the competition, said they were expecting a competitive and exciting season.

"I think it is going to be an exciting season because most of the teams have improved their squad with the addition of other players," said Thomas.

"We are also hoping that the competition will finish on time and everything else will run smoothly," Thomas added.
