Harris ... break-out game made all the difference in game one.
Tivoli Gardens Wizards will be aiming to wrap up the National Basketball League (NBL)/Flow All-Island Championships, when they oppose Majesty Gardens Legends in Game Two of their best-of-three finals at the National Indoor Sports Centre today, starting at 8 p.m.
The game will be preceded by the third-place game between former champions Urban Knights and Manchester Pythons at 3 p.m.
This game will be followed by the NBL Three Pointer shoot-out final at 5:30 p.m., a Flow/NBL Celebrity All-Star game at 6 p.m., then the Slam Dunk final at 7:30 p.m.
The Wizards lead the series 1-0, following their comfortable 81-67 win over the Legends on Thursday at the same venue.
play harder
"We are looking to finish tomorrow (today)," said Edward 'Ted' Marshall, coach of the Wizards. "But we are going to have to play a lot harder and better because we know that Majesty are going to come out firing, knowing that they need to win to keep their hopes alive."
Marshall, whose team last won the competition in 2002, added: "I was very pleased with our performance (Game One) because we dominated the game at both ends of the floor and I am proud of them for this."
The Wizards began the match confidently and led 41-32 at half-time.
The west Kingston-based team came out firing in the third quarter through their leading scorer, Dwayne Harris, who scored five three-pointers to push his team to a 68-53 lead at the end of the period.
However, Majesty Gardens fought their way back into the match in the fourth period and with tight defence, they reduced the deficit to 68-61 with five minutes remaining.
But the Wizards found another gear through Kirk Ferguson, who scored back-to-back three-pointers down the stretch as the Wizards moved away to win.
game-high
Ferguson finished with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds, Harris had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Omar Barnes sunk 13 points.
Despite the 14-point losing margin, Marland Nattie, coach of Majesty, remains confident his team will level the series.
"Dwayne Harris has never been a factor in any of the games against us this season, but he came out tonight and showed us that he is a fantastic shooter and he took the game away from us and we didn't recover," said Nattie.
"It was a good game because we played well defensively, but our transition was very poor and so we have to make sure that we improve on this if we are going to win the game," he said.
Nattie added: "We just have to include Harris and the rest of their other shooters in our plans for Game Two and make sure that we play good defence for the entire 40 minutes of the game."
Captain Baldon Todd, with 24 points and 12 rebounds and Kemar McLeish, 16 points and 13 rebounds, were the leading scorers for Majesty.
