Last Saturday night in London, the winner of the Miss Jamaica UK, 18-year-old graphic design student Jessica Thompson whose parents are from Kingston, was crowned. Miss Thompson also won the People's Vote in the Voice and Gleaner newspapers.
Runners up were 18-year-old Sian Gallimore and 22-year-old Paula Bent, both students.
Founded by June Daley, the contest celebrated its 20th anniversary featuring star performers Levi Roots creator of 'Reggae Reggae Sauce' and the legendary Marcia Griffiths. Certificates were presented to all contestants by Rachel Christie, the former (and first black) Miss England along with former Miss Jamaica UK winners Danielle Dixon (2007) and Donna Scott, who was the first ever win of the pageant back in 1989.

Contestants were asked a range of questions about political, social and cultural affairs, however, all contestants wanted to meet their favourite Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt. Aside from their responses to questions, they were also judged in a swimsuit parade, evening wear, and for their poise, elegance and personality.
Judges included actress Angela Wynter; Rachel Christie; Angela Cox, who is the president of Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK; Andrew O'Kola; and Erica Myers-Davis, DJ, author of the newly published book Under One Flag, and cousin to Usain Bolt.
Patron of the pageant Culture Youth and Sports Minister Olivia Grange's message was read by Gail Davis. Sponsors included Coinstar Money Transfer, Luster products, GV Media Group, Kingsley Shipping, and it was endorsed by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
"The show was a success and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely," said president June Daley, "it was a wonderful night and many people are already requesting tickets for next year's show."
Jessica Thompson will now be an ambassador to the Jamaica Tourist Board in the United Kingdom.
