Last weekend the hotels ensured that their guests did not miss out on the popular American Halloween celebrations.

Halloween is observed on October 31, the eve of All Saints Day, November 1. All Saints Day is a Christian festival honouring the saints. Jamaicans as a group do not usually observe All Saints Day though seven of our 14 parishes are named for saints James, Elizabeth, Catherine, Andrew, Thomas, Mary and Ann. Ironically, Halloween is fast catching on among some persons locally.

One Halloween party was held at Hedonism III in Runaway Bay St Ann last Saturday.

Tourists from overseas came prepared with their costumes, but not to be outdone, the locals fit right in with theirs, though the scariest ones were definitely worn by the visitors and some were overly risqué!

There were costume competitions too including most original, fetish, scariest, best theme (won by Heaven and Hell), and best couple. The winners received five-, four- and three-day vacations at Hedonism III. There was also a prize for best room decoration.
