My dears, among the Scorpians celebrating birthdays is socialite and leading political power broker, the charming Jennifer Lim.

Known for her work for charitable organisations from Israel to Jamaica, Lim is at ease among the rich and powerful and those with political power. She always leads the charge as she lends her considerable organisational skills to the charities she supports.

Celebrated as a loyal friend and advocate for doing the right thing, on Friday October 23, the fashion designer marked another milestone.

To mark the occasion, friend, Kenny Benjamin, hosted a charmingly intimate do at his Old Hope Road, Guardsman Group corporate headquarters. It was a gathering of family and friends who made it a relaxed and intimate outing. It will be hard to top as an evening of civilised discourse and familial camaraderie!

Simply put, it afforded the guests a moment not only to celebrate the birthday of a friend, but also an opportunity to break bread and make merry. Everyone celebrated the present and reminisced about the good old years. It was made that much more pleasant by the presence of a number of Jamaican nationals who reside overseas.

a celebration of friendship

From the start, the occasion oozed charm and sophistication and was clearly a celebration of friendships and a shared dream of a better homeland. The ambience at the Guardsman entertainment deck, boasted a man-made waterfall with a pond for giant kois darting about. A capuchin entertained with wily antics from its cage!

Cocktails flowed as a fine team of waiters attended to the guests. There was never an empty glass all evening and with no empty glasses in house, there was never a dull moment. Guests were clearly in a celebratory mood and the showers earlier, plus dark skies, were not about to prevent those in attendance from enjoying what was a charming outing!

The fare was traditional Jamaican with mackerel run-dung and roasted breadfruit being the preferred menu items, and then some! But of equal delight were the curried goat, served with roti; jerked chicken and pork, served with festival; plus some delightfully tasting daal. And topping it all off was a great tasting 'light' birthday cake that was delicious to its very core, and how!

The open mic gave friends and relatives the chance to toast the birthday girl and with some really fine music being spun, guests needed no prodding to get on the dance floor. Everyone danced up a fine storm and at midnight, all called it a day!

Among those out sharing in the celebration were Speaker of the House MP Delroy and Pat Chuck; Justice Minister and Attorney General Senator Dorothy Lightbourne; Contractor General Greg Christie and wife, Jan; German Ambassador Jurgen Engel and wife, Ana-Marta; Indian High Commissioner Mohinder Grover; Mexican Ambassador Leonora Rueda; Professor Ashok Kulkarni of the University of Technology; Liz McAdam, daughter on Jennifer Lim; Wallace Campbell, her brother, and his son, Vance, and wife, Michelle.

Also out were: the birthday girl's niece, Angeline Harris and husband Anthony; socialites Earl Levy and wife, Beverly; Joe Matalon; the charming Madge Seaga; Robert MacMillan and companion, Candy DePass; Charley and Lisa Johnston; Drs Dhiru and Laura Tanna; the three grande dames of high-society, Lorna Myers, Lolita McGann and Janette Stewart; Russell and Carol Hadeed; George Fatta; Thalia Lyn; Paul Hanna; Paul Matalon and the lovely Deborah Gallimore; Harold Brady; Valerie Juggan-Brown; Vinay Walia; Frank Roshuevel; Gabbie and Meira Shars; Andrew Owen; Louis Delgado; Robbie Epstein; Rommel Fakuri; Nigel Pagan; and the lovely Sonja Sutherland Dumetz, plus a few others!
