Leaders Munro College and third-place St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) were all the rage in Zone E of the 2009 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday afternoon when they registered 6-0 and 5-0 wins against Black River High and Newell High, respectively.

The Hopeton Gilchrist-coached Munro, which now have 13 points from five games, got their goals through Rafeek Roberts (2), Carl Simpson, Jermaine Saams, Leighton Thorpe and Rasheen Eccleston.

Balaclava High remain second in the group behind Munro, on 11 points, after they clipped Lacovia High 1-0 in the third of the three Zone E games. Lacovia stay fourth in the group on six points.

In their impressive win against the struggling Black River High where they lifted their scoring tally to 14 goals this season, the STETHS team, who now has 10 points, got their goals from Denmark Gillings (2), Deshawn Brown (2) and substitute Javae Adams.

In Zone H, the previously unbeaten Clarendon College, which went into their game as joint group leaders with Lennon High, were surprised 1-2 by the Linval Wilson-coached Vere Technical, which now join the Clarendon College team on seven points.

Initial dominance

After surviving the initial dominance by the Paul 'Tegat' Davis-coached Clarendon College, Vere took control in the second half and notched their second win of the season behind goals by Opheous McPherson and Troy Titus. Dashel Satchwell got Clarendon College's lone goal.

In the big Zone D Trelawny derby between Cedric Titus and William Knibb, the Cassman Williams-coached Cedric Titus squeezed out a 1-0 win to displace their opponents atop the group standings and give them bragging rights in Trelawny.

The competition, which is now completing its first round of preliminary action, will continue today at 3:30 p.m. The top-of-the-table Zone A clash between champions St James High and 11-time champions Cornwall College, who are locked atop their group on 12 points each, should be a humdinger as being a Montego Bay derby, bragging rights will also be at stake.
