Portmore United coach Linval Dixon was left singing praises for his new signing, Gary McIntosh, after his two-goal performance led the Sunshine City club to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Arnett Gardens in the Digicel Premier League match at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday.

"Gary McIntosh really played well for us and helped us to win tonight," coach Dixon admitted.

He added that Portmore did not play a good first half, as the players forced the pace of the game instead of playing with patience.

"We decided to change our game for the second half and we got two goals. It's good that we start scoring some goals and augurs well for the season," he said.

Elated coach

An elated McIntosh said "hard work" in traning paid off.

"I'm happy I could score two goals for my team. My aim this year is to become the leading scorer for the league," said McIntosh.

The win placed Portmore on six points from two games whereas the Junglists are pointless after letting in another late goal. In their first game of the season, Arnett gave up a goal in stoppage time to St Georges and lost 0-1.

Portmore, on the other hand, have been searching for a genuine striker since Roen Nelson, their top marksman for a number of years, has been unavailable due to football commitments in Trinidad and Tobago and more recently in China.

Nelson is back and has been coming off the bench. He scored the winner in time added against promoted August Town.

McIntosh, who transferred to Portmore from Reno during the off-season, netted in the 50th and 89th minutes.

Better game

Arnett Gardens played a much better game than they did in the opener against St Georges and took the lead from the penalty spot in the 36th minute, as former Portmore player, Loxley Thomas, struck home the spot kick.

It was a different Portmore team that took the field in the second half as McIntosh, Mario Swaby, Newton Sterling and Kevin Deerr gave the Arnett defence all they could handle.

Arnett's player/coach Fabian Davis expressed disappointment with how his team finishes games.

"We need to start concentrating more during games,"Davis said, adding they need three points from their next match tomorrow.
