NEITHER team could tighten the noose at Lynch Park in Portland on Sunday after Humble Lions FC held home team St Georges to a 0-0 draw in the Digicel Premier League.

Humble Lions' coach, Christopher Bender, praised his team for securing a share of the points.

"It was always going to be difficult here at Lynch Park," he said. "We played well and, like Georges, got a number of scoring opportunities but failed to get on the scoresheet."

It was one of those games which failed to produce a goal despite numerous chances being created by both teams.

In the first half Georges started attacking early through Ushane Dobson, Daniel Shaw and Leon Irving, who combined their passes well and threatened the Humble Lions defence on many occasions.

The Humble Lions defence, however, stood firm as Tyrone Lampart, Damian Barrett, Phillip Fearon and Ricardo Campbell proved equal to the task.

Ssecond half

The second half started with Georges kicking towards the town of Buff Bay and Humble Lion kicking towards the Blue Mountains.

it was the home team which started attacking early through Shaw, Nigel Reid, Irving and the overlapping Keion Clunis, who forced the Lions to play a defensive game.

But the Lions slowly started to counter as Kevin Mighty, who was easily the player of the game for his team, started to make inroads in the Georges defence with good support coming from Errol Wilkie and Sean Coleman.

Captain of the Georges team, Jermaine Taylor, marshalled the defence line well and single-handedly broke up many attacks.

Braxton Hyre, head coach of Georges, said his players gave a better performance in the second half and were unlucky not to have broken the deadlock.

"A number of players are out due to injury," he said. "We are a young team and the players are improving with each game."

He added: "Humble Lions played a physical game and we are hoping that the players have realised what it is like to be physical. Our next game is against Harbour View and it will be all about the ball on that day. We should be able to give a better account."
