Village's Honduran goalkeeper, Rayon Cooper, produced a volley of saves within the last 15 minutes of a closely fought game against Sporting Central to have his team rescue a point in their scoreless Digicel Premier League (DPL) clash at Brancourt.

The result meant that both teams are locked on two points after two rounds, having also drawn their opening games.

First half

A boring first half, in which neither team secured the ascendancy or made any meaningful attempt to score, was followed by an intense second half in which the home side might have been unlucky not to have plucked three crucial points from the encounter.

Sporting's man of the match, Jevaughn Sterling, hit the woodwork midway the half.

Torrid shot

Winger Karl Wiggan also found Cooper in his way from a torrid shot from his favoured left foot and perhaps the goalkeeper's heroics may have intimidated another substitute striker, Onique Ford, to lose his composure, firing well over the top when he could have picked his spot on either side of the goal.

Donovan Duckie, who remained pretty vocal from the sidelines, contantly shouting for composure and passes in attack, was disappointed but found hope for better in the number of chances created by his team.

"I thought we should have gotten on the scoresheet and perhaps even win the game," Duckie told The Gleaner. "It's important though that we did not lose and I still feel we have a platform on which we can build." he said.

Village's coach Cassman Williams lauded the role of Cooper and said it was strategic that his team stayed behind the ball for the majority of the second half to earn a draw.
