Walsh returned as Melbourne president

Former Jamaica and West Indies captain, Courtney Walsh, was returned as president of Melbourne Cricket Club at a special general meeting at the club on Thursday night.

Following a drop in membership, a decline in fund-raising ventures and thus reduced revenue, resignation of officers of the club - including the secretary, the treasurer and the first vice-president, intervention by the trustees followed by the resignation of the entire managing committee and then the withdrawal of the resignation, a special general meeting was called to elect a new committee.

Strong committee

In an effort to put together a strong committee, a slate was put together by the trustees and senior members of the club. On Thursday, the slate was presented to the members to form the new managing committee and the members accepted it unanimously.

The new members of the managing committee include Michael Hosue and Ruddy Marzouca, who had previously served the club as treasurer and club captain, respectively, for many years.

Marzouca was also chairman of the bar committee for many years.

The new managing committee: President - Courtney Walsh, first vice-president - Orrette Fisher, second vice-president - Jeffrey Mordecai, secretary - Rudolph Scott, treasurer - Michael House, club captain - Ruddy Marzouca, committee members - Monica Williams, Gladstone Robinson, Ryan Strachan, Shacourie Wilson and Roy Porter.
