Moroccan fails test

BERLIN (AP):

Jamal Chatbi of Morocco has been suspended for doping after testing positive for an anabolic steroid yesterday ahead of the 3,000-metre steeplechase at the World Championships.

The Moroccan athletics federation says he tested positive for the steroid clembuterol.

The federation, whose statement was carried by the Moroccan news agency MAP, has asked Chatbi for an explanation and whether he wanted his 'B' sample tested.

The 25-year-old runner's name had been on the official starting list of yesterday's race but dropped shortly before the final.

An IAAF official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Chatbi tested positive August 15 in Berlin in a pre-competition test.

US wins protest

BERLIN (AP):

The United States won a protest to have Shannon Rowbury included in the next round of the 1,500-metre race after she was tripped and fell down in a first-round heat yesterday at the World Championships.

Rowbury tumbled to the track around the 200-metre mark of the race, quickly scrambling to her feet and catching up to the pack, where she said she was cut off again. Rowbury, who won the US championships in June, finished in 11th place.

The semi-finals of the 1,500 will take place on Friday.
