Berlin, Germany:

An impressive looking Brigitte Foster-Hylton led three veteran Jamaica women, all aged 34, into today's semi-finals of the 100 metres hurdles at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

Foster-Hylton looked extremely easy in winning the fifth of five heats in 12.67 seconds. She streaked away from her rivals and eased up considerably after clearing the final hurdle to win ahead of Canada's Perdita Felicien, 12.77 and Anay Tejeda of Cuba, 12.82.

Delloreen Ennis-London, 12.73 and Lacena Golding-Clark, 12.90, were both second in heats one and two, respectively. Olympic champion, Dawn Harper of the United States, won heat one in 12.70, while heat two went to another American, Damu Cherry, in 12.71.

"It is about qualifying and getting to the next round and not using up too much energy. Tomorrow I have two hard races. I will get some rest and get ready for that," Foster-Hylton said.

The semi-finals and final of the event will be run today. The fastest qualifier from the heats is Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, who won heat four in 12.56.

Jamaica's lone competitor in the men's 400 metres, Ricardo Chambers, is through to today's second round. Chambers was second in heat six in 45.57. He was just beaten by American Jeremy Wariner, who clocked 45.54.

Ramon Miller of The Bahamas, who won heat five in 45.00, is the fastest qualifier for today's semi-finals. Olympic champion and favourite, LaShawn Merritt of the United States, won heat four in 45.23.

A Swedish Sports website had reported that a sprinter training in Jamaica with the Racers Track Club, the club of World 100 metres champion Usain Bolt, has tested positive for an unknown banned substance.

The reports surfaced in the Main Media Centre at the 12th World Championships here in Berlin.
