Jamaica is extremely proud

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WITHOUT A doubt, the entire Jamaica is tremendously proud of the earth-shattering achievement of Usain Bolt in an exceptional performance, not only gaining gold in the 100m world championships final, but to do so convincingly, shaving off more than one-tenth of a second off his previous world record!

Disappointment

I was, however, extremely disappointed with TVJ's Prime Time News reporting of the 100m finals, mentioning Asafa Powell's third place as almost an afterthought. This is the tragic flaw of glory-hunters, in which attention is switched to the most glorious thing in sight. Let us not fail to remember and to celebrate Asafa who brought Jamaica into new possibilities in the 100m in a long lineage of brilliant Jamaican sprinters.

And no, the gimmickry of sports news commentary doesn't fit the bill of recognising a son of the soil who has brought honour and glory to 'brand Jamaica'.

I am, etc.,
