Lowering the bar
Published: Tuesday | August 18, 2009
Teddy Jones, in his letter to the editor, yesterday offered kudos to Carolyn Cooper after reading her article in The Sunday Gleaner of August 16 on 'Festival daggerin'.
While I agree that she raised some rather interesting points in her column, I thought it was laced with sarcasm. The objective of her musing, in my view, is not to get the Broadcasting Commission to further clean up the airwaves or the other affected media, but to acknowledge that it erred in picking on the dancehall artistes and, as such, is guilty of bias.
I believe that if Carolyn had her way, she would seek to lower the bar raised by the broadcasting commission and give the dancehall artistes free reign to express themselves in the industry and inside our homes because 'dat a part a wi uneek culcha'.
I am, etc.,
