Please, save our children

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE NEW school term is drawing nigh and many students and parents are anticipating it for various reasons. I am fearful of it.

My child, who goes to a primary and junior high school, is so traumatised by the incidents of violence at the school on a daily basis. He is in the primary department and everyday I fret if he is going to come home in one piece. He complains that the grades seven to nine boys rob them, fight them and do almost everything to make their lives miserable.

Something should be done

I really think the minister of education needs to do something about these schools. I do not think the primary department and junior high should be on one campus. They need to be separated. The bigger ones are spoiling the younger ones and, thus, they go to school in fear. It is not fair to a six year old to be going to school with a 15 year old.

These students who are coming to the junior high school display unacceptable behavioural patterns and I do want my son to learn and become someone worthwhile to society.

I, therefore, suggest that the minister separates these schools - primary and secondary. Please do not let our little lads be traumatised any longer.

I am, etc.,
