Exciting football, a sparkling trophy and a winner's purse of $100,000 will be at stake today when the second staging of the annual LINKZ96FM 20/20 Football Fiesta unfolds at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay with nine schoolboy teams.

"Following our exciting elimination series, which saw games being played at five different venues last Saturday, we are now ready and raring to go," said Ian Myles, Sports Editor at LINKZ96FM. "We are hoping the fans will come out in their numbers to make it the special day we want it to be."

Teams

Among the nine teams that will be battling for supremacy are former daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Munro College, Frome Technical and Godfrey Stewart.

The line-up also includes Manning Cup contenders Jamaica College, which played as a guest team last year and won and reigning daCosta Cup champions, St James High School.

"This is part of LINKZ96FM's drive to provide the schools from the county of Cornwall with an opportunity to fine-tune their preparation ahead of the upcoming ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup season," said Roger Allen, general manager of LINKZ96FM. "We are very excited about the staging of this event."

In last Saturday's elimination series, which saw games being played at Cornwall College (St James), Addison Park (St Ann), Frome Sports Ground (Westmoreland), Rusea's High School (Hanover) and at STETHS, five teams qualified as zone winners and two as best second-place finishers.

Elimination casualties

Among the elimination casualties were former champions Rusea's High, whose zone was topped by Frome; and Cornwall College, which competed alongside St James High and Maldon. Cornwall fell prey to Maldon and failed to advance.

Today's action, which will feature games of 20 minutes duration, will start at 1 p.m. with the first of four quarter-finals: Munro vs Grange Hill. The winners of the quarter-final matchups will advance to the four-team semi-final.

Beside the prize package for the winner, the members of the winning team will also get individual gold medals. Second place will receive $30,000, a trophy and silver medals, while third place will pocket $10,000 and gift packages courtesy of the sponsor.
