Carib pride being trampled

The Editor, Sir:

Rohan Fraser, writing from Abu Dhabi (July 19), bemoans the destruction of WI cricket by a board comprised of "ignorant egos and ineffective, old-fashioned management style". He further regrets the demotivating of a bunch of "modern, talented players" by that "decrepit board".

I have been an ardent supporter of WI cricket for decades and have been longing for the emergence of 'modern, talented players' who can adapt to challenging playing conditions and display the kind of temperament that will allow their batsmen to average above 40 runs. With the notable exception of little Chiv, all the other 'modern, talented' players are below 40.

I guess we should be proud that we have been able to consistently maintain our number eight ranking, possibly due in large part to the 'herculean efforts of our modern, talented' players, who by the way, have been continuously and unfairly omitted from the ranking of the top 15 international batters except for the briefest moment. Again little Chiv is the exception.

The pride of our Caribbean people has for too long been trampled by a bunch of uncommitted, uncaring, unpatriotic under-achieving bunch of 'modern, talented' players whose mercenary tactics have left WI cricket in shambles.

I am, etc.,
