Jamaica is no Zimbabwe

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE WRITER of the letter 'Jamaica en route to becoming Caribbean Zimbabwe', dated July 15, did not make any precise comparison between both countries to prove his point. I, and many others who have had the experience of working with Zimbabweans over the years, would disagree with that comparison to a certain extent.

Education a sore point

I think they are highly intelligent people and if half the population of Jamaica was as skilled, many of our social problems would be significantly minimised or non-existent. However, I do agree with the writer's comments 100 per cent with regard to education. Our deficiency there is the root cause of the country's social and economic problems.

I am, etc.,
