Writer got it wrong

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with interest the letter of the day 'Economy off track, Gov't drifting' (Friday, July 17), with regard to the criticisms of the prime minister's town-hall meetings in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. I also attended both meetings.

I arrived late for the Montego Bay meeting and was told the room was full. I had to go outside where there were two big screens; the crowd outside watching was very large; I would say exceeding 1,000. As such, I thought it strange that someone could say inside and out there were fewer than 300 people.

I arrived on time in Ocho Rios and got a seat. The crowd filled up a much larger space than Montego Bay and the school hall was full, and including those standing, about 700-800 people.

No disconnect

Finally, I am not aware of the disconnect he speaks of between the Government and people, because I feel if you have cable you can know what's happening and, if not, just listen to the radio. The Government advertises its programmes, for example, the YEP programme. My twin daughters are in on that programme. So maybe he needs to get a good cable service or just listen to the radio some more.

I am, etc.,
