Sever crime, politics link

The Editor, Sir:

Peter Bunting's acknowl-edgement of the ties of Jamaica's political parties with murderous criminal gangs comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with politics in Jamaica. The only thing shocking is his admitting to this corrupt practice.

Now, with the security forces hearing this, they should be in a position to argue that briefing the political parties prior to security operations be suspended.

Full debriefing

This suspension should only apply after the operations have completed a full debriefing to the Jamaican people and the relevant government ministers afterwards.

Jamaica's security forces, as in all non-military-run nations, should be loyal first to the country's population, then to the standing government. This is needed now in Jamaica more that ever. A criminal is a criminal whether he carries a gun in his waist or wears an Armani suit.

Based on the past 30 years, gunmen have restricted Jamaica's growth immeasurably. Now if these gunmen are controlled by politicians then it's only logical to say Jamaica's growth has been restricted by such politicians.

The Jamaican security forces would gain the trust and admiration of the population if they confront and arrest these godfathers of gunmen masquerading as politicians. We all know the security forces would be severely criticised by both political parties, but delivering peace to the Jamaican people would be worth it.

Simply put, the future of Jamaica rests in the independent security actions taken by our security forces, actions that are totally unmolested by these so-call politicians.

Remember, remove the head and the body must fall.

I am, etc.,
