Cavalier in do-or-die clash

Cavalier will face a virtual must-win situation this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against leaders and favourites August Town, in the Claro KSAFA Super League at the UWI Bowl, Mona.

Cavalier, on 40 points, trail August Town - who have a game in hand - by three points with a mere three rounds of matches to go, and with August Town having a superior goal difference, the former need to and remain serious contenders for the title.

"This could be the game that decides who goes through to the national premier league play-offs and, as such, we will be pulling out all the stops to come out on top," said Cavalier's player-coach, David Laylor.

August Town have been leading for weeks and will be seeking a victory that will all but wrap up the title.

"We all recognise that this is a very crucial game. If we win this match, with two matches to go and such a healthy goal difference, we would be in a good position to win the league as all we would then need is a point from the next two games. So, with this in mind, we will be giving it our best shot to claim all three points," said Calvert Fitzgerald, coach of August Town.

In other matches, third-place Santos, who are six points off the lead, will be hoping that the August Town-Cavalier match ends in a draw. If that happens and they defeat second-from-bottom Police National at home, it would put them back into serious contention for the title.

Other matches on the day will see the Jamaica Defence Force travelling to Constant Spring, Bull Bay welcoming Duhaney Park at Bull Pen, Mountain View hosting Marverley Hughenden and Real Mona journeying to Liguanea United.

Meanwhile, in the Claro KSAFA Major League, leaders Rae Town will host third-place Barbican, second-place Central Kingston travel to Swallowfield, Molynes United will travel to Meadforrest, Cooreville Gardens will entertain Seaview Gardens, while Brown's Town will welcome Olympic Gardens.
