The Editor, Sir:I can understand the security forces' focus on a new crime plan, considering the crime wave currently being unleashed on the country. However, in addition to hard policing, the time has come for a week of atonement. We need to set aside at least one week to pray for this nation, during which churches could open their doors at specific times to allow people to come in and pray for the nation.
Inspirational music
Radio stations could play predominantly religious and inspirational music to encourage people to reflect more on their actions and their vision for this country, and to ask for God's guidance.
There is a numbness and loss of a sense of outrage in our nation, which is frightening. Many of us are content to sit in our ivory towers in New Kingston and criticise the police and the teachers, without any real understanding of the stress they go through on a daily basis, trying to keep order in a society which is apparently hell-bent on anarchy. The resolution of our crime problem cannot be left up to the police alone; it will require input from all of us, under God's direction.
I am, etc.,
